New Oil Discoveries in Mexico – Leverage the Maximus Dataset

28 March 2023

On 17 March 2023, Eni and their partners Capricorn Energy and Citla Energy announced the discovery of oil and natural gas in the Yatzil-1 well. The discovery is estimated to hold up to 200 MMboe.

This is the latest and largest of a series of oil and gas discoveries in the Salinas Sureste Basin in recent years. With several prospects and discoveries nearby, a hub development strategy is likely to be the best solution.

The Yatzil-1 well targeted sands in the Upper Miocene and proved 40m+ of net pay. Based on extensive subsurface data collection, Eni reports that the Upper Miocene sand sequences have excellent petrophysical properties. The well was drilled by “Valaris DPS-5” in a water depth of around 284m and TD was 2441m.
